In the early 1870s, a family of Georgia was the center of a whirlwind of strange paranormal activity and sometimes violent.
This place was possessed by something evil.
This was the opinion of Herschel Tillman when he recalled his many visits to the home of Allen Powell Surrency when he was a young boy in the early 1870s.
He was one of thousands of witnesses of poltergeist activity that prevailed in the house Surrency, which makes it one of the best known cases of paranormal activity in US history.
Allen Powell Surrency a sawmill owner was also the founder of the small town of Surrency in southern Georgia. When returning from a trip to Hazelhurst in October 1872, he found his home in the grip of fear.
In a letter he wrote to the Savannah Morning News, he describes it:
A few minutes after my arrival, I saw the glass cups slide on the edge of the sink and dishes fall to the ground and break. The books began to tumble shelves, while the iron, biscuits, potatoes, tin pots, water buckets, jugs, etc ... also started to fall in different parts of my house. There were many other strange things about my house.
These facts can be proved by more than fifty witnesses.
As you read this, we could say that the house of Surrency might have suffered the effects of an earthquake. In fact, this theory was immediately proposed to explain the phenomena of this house. But this explanation does not hold after investigation: the strange activity lasted for weeks or even years; Surrency home was the only one affected, in addition, an earthquake could not explain all the weird phenomena described below.
And although Surrency phenomena have been attributed to a ghost, the case has all the characteristics poltergeist activity, which is a psychological phenomenon rather than that caused by residual or intelligent haunting.
Most cases of poltergeists are centered around a "vector", usually a girl at the age of puberty. At the time, the Surrency family had eight children aged 3 to 21 years.
This story did not take long to interest many people, and soon the house of Surrency was the center of a media frenzy. Journalists and curious flocked by far, Canada via England in the hope of seeing paranormal activity with their own eyes.
Few were disappointed ...
